Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 September 2026
Folia (“we”, “us”) runs two different things at folia.it.com: a set of free file & photo tools, and an optional, account-based journal. They have genuinely different privacy models, so this policy covers them in two separate sections below rather than one blended statement — “nothing leaves your device” is true for the tools, not for the journal.
Part 1 — Tools: processed locally, nothing uploaded
Most Folia tools run entirely in your browser. For those tools (image compression, PDF merge, split, organize, images-to-PDF, PDF-to-images, PDF-to-text, and the passport-photo & signature tools), your file never leaves your device — it is not uploaded to any server.
A few tools need server processing: Compress PDF to a size, Office to PDF, and PDF to Word. For those, your file is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, processed in memory, and deleted immediately after the result is returned. We do not store, log the contents of, back up, or share your files.
No account is required to use any tool. The only data collected for tool use is basic technical server logs (IP address, timestamp, request type) kept for security and abuse-prevention, and automatically deleted after 30 days. Because tool files are never stored, there is nothing beyond these logs for us to delete.
Part 2 — Journal: requires an account, here’s what we store
The journal is a separate, optional feature. If you create an account, we store your email address and the content you save — notes, tasks, bookmarks, links, expenses, moods, and voice recordings — so we can show it back to you across sessions and devices. This data is stored in our database until you delete it or ask us to.
Your rights: you can access, correct, export, or delete your journal data at any time from within the app, or by contacting us at hello@folia.it.com. Deleting your account removes your stored content.
For users in India: the journal collects personal data (including voice recordings), which falls under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). Consistent with it, we collect journal data only with your consent (creating an account and saving content), use it only to provide the journal back to you, and honour requests to access, correct, or erase it. If you believe your data has been handled incorrectly, contact us first at hello@folia.it.com so we can address it directly. This section reflects our current understanding of the DPDP Act and is not legal advice.
Cookies, analytics & advertising
This section applies to both tools and journal. We may use cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality, to measure traffic, and — where you consent — for advertising. We may use third-party services such as Google Analytics and Google AdSense. These providers may set their own cookies to measure usage and to serve and personalise ads. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies via the banner shown on your first visit, and manage cookies through your browser settings. Children
Folia is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy; the “last updated” date above will change when we do.
